Howard helps Rapids net scoreless draw vs. FC Dallas

Sports Xchange - Sunday 13th August, 2017

Tim Howard posted six saves and had help on the goal line from his defense on two other potential scoring chances as the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas played to a scoreless draw on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

FC Dallas and Colorado waited out an 87-minute lightning delay that began in the 82nd minute, but the suspension of play on the field did nothing to break the deadlock between the teams.

Howard posted his third shutout in 15 matches and FC Dallas keeper Jesse Gonzalez secured his sixth clean sheet of the season.

FC Dallas' Maximiliano Urruti found the net two minutes into first-half stoppage time, but the apparent goal was reversed by video review. Referee Alan Kelly consulted a video monitor on the sideline and ruled that FC Dallas defender Atiba Harris had fouled Colorado's Dominique Badji in the run of play before Urruti's goal and disallowed it.

FC Dallas (9-5-8, 35 points in 22 matches) has just four points from its past four matches, even though all those games were against clubs below the playoff line in their conferences.

Colorado (6-12-4, 22 points in 22 matches) saw its road winless streak stretch to 11 games, the third longest swoon away from home in franchise history. The Rapids remain in last place in the Western Conference.

FCD owned the statistics, outshooting the Rapids 28-5 (including 22-1 in the second half) and putting eight shots on target to one for Colorado. It also outpassed the Rapids 371-340 and outpossessed the visitors 53.7 percent-46.3 percent.

Dallas peppered Howard with four shots on target in the second half and twice had him out of position enough where defender Kortne Ford had to clear shots off the line to keep the match scoreless.

Next up for FC Dallas is a huge road match agaisnt Sporting Kansas City on Aug. 19. The Rapids return home to host D.C. United, also on Aug. 19.
